Karen Lee Orzechowski was born in Washington, D.C., June 20, 1958, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Maryland in 1980. Ms. Orzechowski received her Juris Doctorate from The National Law Center of George Washington University. She is a former U.S. Patent Examiner in the chemical field. Ms. Orzechowski is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and is a member of the bars of the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the Federal Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. Ms. Orzechowski is a member of the Board of Editors for American Lawyer Media's Patent Strategy & Management and also authors the column on chemical patent practice. Ms. Orzechowski written extensively for a number of legal and technical publications around the world on a variety of intellectual property issues. She is a noted lecturer on intellectual property issues both here and abroad. Ms. Orzechowski has been profiled in the feature story "Women in Intellectual Property Law," in Patent World as a senior female intellectual property lawyer with an extensive international practice. She is very active in community and professional organizations including the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the American Bar Association, the Federal Circuit Bar Association, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the American Chemical Society, and the Maryland High Technology Council. In AIPLA, Ms. Orzechowski is an active member of the Japan Practice Committee, China Committee, Latin America Committee, International Education Committee, Chemical Patent Practice Committee, Membership Committee, and Women in IP Law Committee. In the ABA, she chaired the subcommittee on International Comparative Biotechnology Law.
